About Bryn Nelson, PhD

Bryn Nelson is a former microbiologist who has worked as a science and medical writer since 2000. After seven years as an award-winning staff writer at Newsday in New York, he became a freelance writer and editor in 2007.

Bryn has contributed to The New York Times, Nature, Mosaic, Discover, Scientific American,, Science News for Students and other print and online publications. He has written for a range of nonprofit organizations, medical institutes and trade publications and edited two chapters on microbiology and food safety for the six-volume Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking.

Bryn received his PhD in microbiology from the University of Washington in Seattle and a graduate certificate in science writing from the University of California at Santa Cruz.
