New Line of OTC Pain Relievers from Sunascen
A PPM Brief
Sunascen Therapeutics (Rockville, MD) has developed a new line of over-the-counter (OTC) pain relievers, called MYGRIN, based on the Wong-Baker FACES Pain Rating Scale self-assessment tool. The MYGRIN lineup currently consists of two products: MYGRIN Roll-On Gel (menthol 3.5%) and MYGRIN Nighttime (acetaminophen 250mg, aspirin 250mg, and diphenhydramine citrate 38mg).
A specially formulated cooling topical, MYGRIN Roll-on Gel may be administered year-round using a roll-on applicator for the temporary relief from minor aches and muscle/joint pain associated with arthritis, bruises, and sprains. The dye-free, non-greasy, and non-staining formulation is aimed at patients age 2 and above.
MYGRIN Nighttime is a combination drug used to temporarily relieve occasional headaches and minor aches and pains with accompanying sleeplessness. The product contains less than the typical single dose of most nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as acetaminophen, in each caplet. The addition of diphenhydramine citrate, a non-addictive sleep aid, enables users to both alleviate pain and improve sleep conditions.
“Through this new product line, the patient/consumer will be able to achieve sufficient pain relief emanating from common causes by consuming the appropriate non-habit forming product along with a minimum but effective dose; without exceeding the maximum recommended daily dose unless directed by a doctor,” said Sandip J. Patel, PharmD, CEO of Sunascen Therapeutics. “Furthermore, both active and inactive ingredients in MYGRIN products have been carefully selected to provide the patient/consumer with the maximum benefit, and minimum potential long-term complications.”2
